Is the Software Engineer Shortage a Myth?
I don’t know about you, but we are in full baseball mode in my house, the other day a discussion about farm systems came up while watching a baseball game and it got me thinking about how a similar idea could and should be applied in software development.
There is all of this talk about how there is a shortage of software engineers, but the real problem is that the software engineers out there don’t have enough experience for the positions that are available. This means that the engineers that have experience are in very high demand and there are not enough of them to go around. I don’t know about you, but it seems like the simple fix would be for companies to start a farm system or create a way to hire engineers with less experience and train them.
In order for this system to work software engineers with less experience would also have to be willing to take junior positions. It is natural instinct for college graduates to want to start out with the ideal job after they graduate, but the reality is that even if you did receive a degree in one of the hottest professions, you still have to prove that you have the skills to compete in the industry.
A good way to get a start in your career is to find a company that is willing to train you and work with you, so that you have the skills you need to be a great software engineer. When looking for one of these positions make sure that they offer plenty of opportunity to learn and grow.
Check out some of the great positions that we have available for software engineers.
